It has been a month now since the mutant gene associated with DCM by Dr. Meurs was found and a test devised. Many thought it would be the end of DCM for all time but as time passes it still remains to be seen. Truly the study has just begun to now identify exactly how or what the gene contributes to this disease. We know that there are dogs that tested negative for the gene but had cardio so it appears that their are multiple contributing genes just like in humans where 24 genes have been identified so far.
Over the next few years we need to test and observe and help the study in any way we can as Doberman lovers. It was not the end all answer we had foolishly hoped for but it is a beginning.
